Curriculum & Labs

The Switch Lab

The SWITCH LabTM is a Career Tech Education and PBL based curriculum for teaching electric vehicle technology. The SWITCH Lab can be taught as: 1) a 17-week semester course 2) an 8 week accelerated course 3) a 2 week intensive summer course.

We have two options for High School & College students:

Option 1: The Curriculum Club- an annual membership program

*year 1 is included with the purchase of the Switch EV

The Switch Lab Curriculum Club is an annual subscription service that currently includes 14 EV specific Power Point Presentations.  The PPT’s explain and define the components installed in an electric vehicle including the batteries, motors, chargers and other EV specific parts and accessories.  Students are also introduced to wire sizing and termination; calculations to predict energy consumption and aerodynamics; plus sources of electricity and environmental issues.

Total Cost: $1000/year

Option 2: Text Book, Instructor Guide & Student Workbook

We offer a study guide that includes suggested instructor lectures and discussion points, student workbooks, and tests that accompany the third edition of Build Your Own Electric Vehicle written by Bob Brant and Seth Leitman. Whether you want to teach a basic introductory class or a pre-engineering class with significant STEM, physics, and engineering concepts, we highly recommend this text book. This curriculum is suitable for use with The SWITCH Lab or your own program designing or building vehciles or converting ICE vehicles to EVs.

The Switch Lab Curriculum Club

An Annual Membership Program

The SWITCH Lab Curriculum Club is an annual subscription service that currently includes:

Step by Step assembly instructions – Purchase of The Switch Lab includes step by step instructions for assembly of your Electric Vehicle.  Assembly instructions are provided in written and video formats and start with receiving your shipment and conclude with testing the completed vehicle.

Access to membership forums, the place where instructors communicate directly with each other and share ideas, tips and concerns.

Access to The SWITCH Lab lecture series. New lectures are being produced on a regular basis. As a part of the club, members can download lectures and lab free of charge.

Project Challenge Participation: Periodically The SWITCH Lab presents challenges for instructors to offer their classes as we way to stimulate thinking, ideas and participation.

Currently there are over a dozen power point presentations available for downloading.  Presentations are between 15 minutes and 90 minutes in length and include and entire lesson.
